You might remember that last month I wrote about our experiences with the pink Smart-Trike Zoo. My oldest daughter thinks the pinkalicious ride is pretty fantastic and if the weather is no good for a bike ride to the playground she just rides it inside instead. You can imagine her disappointment when she realised she has to share the Smart-Trike Zoo with her little sister, who has now reached the proper age for it and sits on it like a queen on a throne. Aside from the Smart-Trike Zoo there are a few other Smart-Trike designs, each with different features but all extremely versatile.
The Smart-Trike Recliner 4-in-1 is the first trike ever designed for babies from just 6 months old, this means is it is suitable for little ones who can’t even sit up yet! The first stage of the Smart-Trike Recliner features a reclined back for a comfortable resting position, it acts pretty much just like a stroller. The trike features two separate footrests to accommodate little legs of different lengths: one for stage 1 and for stage 2.
Stage 2 starts when your baby turns 10 months old. At this point he/she will most likely be able to sit up and really enjoys looking around so the Smart-Trike Recliner will adjust to a straight back. Don’t worry, your baby is safely strapped in by the padded safety harness. The safety bar can be removed and the trike starts to look more like a bike now with real handles for the child to hold on to.
The in between fase can be challenging: your 15-month old thinks he can do everything by himself but you know he still needs some parental guidance. That’s why stage 3 of the Smart-Trike Recliner allows for both. The child can steer, brake and pedal independently but the steering and braking can also be done by the parent, using the telescopic, adjustable and removable parent steering handle.
At 24 months old there is no holding back your independent toddler. Gone with the parent handle and off goes the little cyclist on his stage 4 trike, his/her favourite toy in the parcel tray. The Smart-Trike Recliner features rubber wheels for a smooth ride, non-slip pedals that are designed to stop little feet from sliding off and an adjustable, detachable sun canopy that will come in handy in the hot Australian summers.
